Young Boys' Camp 03

Every year in the spring we have a camp for boys who have not camped as Cubs before.

It is called the YBC, which stands for Young Boys' Camp.

Click on the photos if you want to see them bigger.

The YBC is a weekend camp at our Hut. The first night the boys sleep in the Hut, then on the Saturday we put up tents, and on the Saturday night we sleep in tents.

This year at the YBC we were Vikings for the weekend. So we started by making helmets . . .

. . . and shields.

We also made some weapons - each boy made a Viking axe.

This year the YBC was in June, and 15 boys came.

Washing up

The boys took it in turns to do all the chores. Like washing up.

Doing the chores properly was one way of earning points for your team. There were three teams, named after Vikings.

"Eric Bloodaxe, it's your turn to do the washing up!"

On Saturday morning some Dads came to help us put the tents up. We put up three tents, one for each team.

Then it was time to go on a raid.

We practised some Viking sports, like axe throwing, archery, and wrestling.

On Saturday the boys cooked their own dinner, and the Leaders' dinner, on camp fires.

Inspection

And then on Saturday night we walked up to the battlefield where the people of Pinhoe fought the Viking raiders a thousand years ago.

On Sunday we built a bridge over the stream. And then came back to the present day.
