Mince Pies

When it was getting towards Christmas we made mince pies.

Click on the photos if you want to see them bigger.

One of the Leaders had already made the pastry in her mixer.

So the first thing we had to do was divide it up and roll it out.

That was after we'd washed our hands, of course!

Pound the pastry
Plenty of flour

When the pastry is rolled out you cut out circles to fit in the tray, and put a spoonful of mincemeat in each one.

Except for those boys who preferred to make mince fajitas, instead of mince pies!

You have to sprinkle flour on the table and on the rolling pin. If you don't, the pastry can stick to the pin!

Don't let it stick to the pin
Keep the flour off your clothes

Put a few holes in the lid of the pie, and decorate it if you like with some pastry shapes. Then it's ready for the oven.

Careful you don't get flour on your uniform!

Several Cubs' Mum's came to help.

Thanks, Mum! Can we make some more at home?

Thanks Mum!
