Huish Woods Camp

Towards the end of the Summer Term we had a weekend camp at Huish Woods near Taunton.

The camp was all about Robin Hood. We read some of the legends about Robin Hood, and did some of the same activities.

Some boys were away on a school trip, so only 10 boys came to camp. A Cub Scout Leader visiting from Russia also came to camp with us, and learned something about Robin Hood.

We spent the first morning exploring the artificial caves at Huish, and having races through the tunnels.

The camp was divided into two gangs of Outlaws, Will Scarlet's gang and Little John's gang, and the gangs won points for how well they did at the activities and at doing their chores.

We had an archery contest to win the Golden Arrow, just like Robin Hood.

And Little John's gang shooting.

The gangs weren't deadly enemies - they did have dinner together, for instance!

Ant Camp

We were busy at camp, but you do have to have some quiet time, particularly since it was pretty hot. We had a list of "quiet time activities" that the boys could chose from, and do either by themselves or with their gang.

This is a quiet time activity that Will Scarlet's gang did - "build a camp site for ants".

On Saturday evening we had a quarterstaff fight on a bridge. Like when Robin Hood first met Little John.

Then we had a camp fire. Including learning some Russian camp fire songs.

Zip line

On Sunday we used the zip line at Huish. You slide down from a high cliff through the trees on a wire.

You end up high above the ground, in the trees, and have to lower yourself down.

Just hanging around!
