Climbing Wall

In the Christmas holidays we went to try out the new climbing wall at District HQ.

Click on the photos if you want to see them bigger.

The climbing wall is built onto the end wall of District Headquarters, and reaches almost to the roof.

The Sixers and Seconders came to try it out.

Look at the monkey

They all had a great time, and lots of goes. Some climbed like monkeys from the start. Others needed a bit of practice before they climbed like monkeys!

The climbers have a safety rope, which is "belayed" by somebody down on the floor, to make it a bit less painful if they fall off!

The wall has three pitches, so three people can climb at a time, if you've got enough people who know how to belay.

Abseil off

When you get to the top you can abseil down.

Some of the boys found this quite scary the first time. Others were quite relaxed about it.

But you don't have to poke your tongue out at the camera!

The three pitches are different in difficulty. And when you can climb even the hardest pitch, you can make it more difficult by leaving out some of the holds.

Here, Spiderman is climbing only on the blue holds, and isn't allowed to use the black ones.

Yes, we've tried it out, and it's good. We'll do this again!
