Summer Cubs

We carried on meeting during the Summer Holidays. We didn't wear uniform, we stayed later than usual because we didn't have to go to school next day, and we tried to be outside all the time. This is some of the stuff we did.

Summer More about the catapults More about the stilts More about the tower
We made some giant catapults and used them to have a water battle.

Catapult battle
Defend the Bucket We played 'Defend the Bucket' using wet sponge balls.
One Six has to stop the balls that the other Sixes are trying to throw into the bucket.

The bucket is in the middle of a small chalk circle. The defending Six has to stay outside the small circle.

Around that there is a bigger circle. The attackers have to stay outside the big circle.
Defend the Bucket
Defend the Bucket You can play the game with bean-bags, or tennis balls (into a dustbin). But wet sponge balls are better!

The Sixes take it in turns to be defenders, and the winning Six is the one that defends the bucket best.
Another week we did some woodwork, and made ourselves some stilts.

Making stilts
Cooking pancakes One week we lit fires and cooked pancakes.

It was difficult cooking the pancakes, because the smoke gets in your eyes . . .
. . . but they taste pretty good, anyway! Eating pancakes
Climbing tower And another week we made a climbing tower.

That was the end of Summer Cubs for this year.

The number of boys at each Meeting was reduced from normal, of course, because of holidays. But the reduced numbers and the longer Meetings took some of the pressure off, and the Leaders could spend more time with each boy. And we did some stuff that we couldn't have done with the whole Pack.
