Every year we try to have at least one
weekend camp for the older boys.
In November 2001 we went to Caddihoe in Ashclyst Forest, and 8 of the older
boys, the Sixers and Seconds, came. |
|
|
The boys were split into two teams, and during
the weekend the teams did some challenges to get points.
This challenge is called the Heavy Water Vehicle. Each team has to get their
vehicle round a course in the woods, without spilling the bucket of water and
as quickly as possible. You have to work all together to do it well -
particularly when you come to obstacles. |
| During a hike in the woods we found a pile of rubble that was
going to be used to fill a muddy path. So we had a quick challenge - build the
tallest tower! |
 |
 |
Another challenge was a string burn. The teams had
to invent a way to burn through a string, without going any closer to it than 4
metres! |
| The string is tied from one side of the barn to the other. It
looks like the candle's not high enough to cut it yet! |
 |
 |
Each team also invented a challenge to challenge
the other team with. They had to do the challenge themselves as well, of
course, so they had to think what they were good at that the other team weren't
quite so good at!
This is a string trail - blindfold and carrying a bucket of water! |
On the last day, both teams together made an assault course
in the woods. Then both teams ran it against the clock.
Some boys found some of the obstacles easy to get over . . . |
 |
 |
. . . but you have to get all the members
of your team round the course, and the only time that counts is the time of the
slowest! So help each other. |
| Everybody tried very hard to do their share of the work and
to look after each other at the Camp. And to do their best at the challenges.
The points were level right until the final challenge - and I can't remember
who won that! |
